Portugal Salary Calculator 2026: Gross to Net
Estimate net pay per payment, annual take-home pay and average monthly net after social security and IRS.
Annualized estimate for mainland Portugal, a single employee and 14 payments. Assumes the full €250.00 general-family-expense credit, which can be switched off. Net per payment does not exactly reproduce monthly withholding. The temporary 50% reduction in November 2026 withholding is not included.
Update note: on 9 October 2026, Parliament approved a retroactive reduction in the first six IRS brackets for 2026 income. As of 19 October, the amending law had not yet been published; this calculator uses the schedule then published in law and may need updating.

Questions people ask
How is net salary calculated?
The annual calculation includes 11% employee social security, the specific employment deduction, the minimum-existence allowance and annual IRS brackets. Annual tax is allocated over 14 payments.
Does Portugal pay 12 or 14 salaries?
This model assumes 14 payments: 12 regular salaries, holiday subsidy and Christmas subsidy. It also shows annual net divided by 12 for an average monthly comparison.
Is the general-expense credit guaranteed?
No. The estimate assumes the full €250.00 general-family-expense credit; switch it off if you cannot claim it.
Will monthly withholding match this result?
Not necessarily. This is an annualized estimate distributed over 14 payments. Official withholding tables and the annual assessment can produce different amounts.
Have Portugal's 2026 IRS rates been updated?
Update note: on 9 October 2026, Parliament approved a retroactive reduction in the first six IRS brackets for 2026 income. As of 19 October, the amending law had not yet been published; this calculator uses the schedule then published in law and may need updating.
